How the Internet Effects Me.

I used to use the internet a lot, to get on Facebook mostly. Now though, I only really get on to do research or something school related. Once in a awhile I will get on and check Facebook, but not as often as I used to. The internet can be useful and to some extent teach you something, but we have to know how to use it wisely in order to learn form it. Media sites can keep us updated with what is going on but so can going out and actually seeing it too. The internet can be to some extent isolating. I used to be isolated, but now that I narrow my time spent using it I started to figure more out on my own.

News

CNN had a news story about O.J. Simpson and him loosing bid to toss conviction of robbery and kidnapping chargers. I think klosterman would take this as real because everyone knows Simpson as a criminal for awhile. Especially from the trial of his ex wife's death. He was found guilty for kidnaping and robber on 12 counts and 33 years in prison. This sis something that will be talked about or remembered for awhile.
Another CNN news story I watched was about a woman who payed her taxes in ones and pennies. Klosterman would take this as meaningless because it doesn't affect anyone but the people involved directly. Yes it would take time to count out 11 thousand ones, but it won't be talked about by people in a few years.

Millenials

The movie knocked up is a good example of one of the things that makes this generation a millenial. A lot of teenagers or even adults are having children before marriage. And some are not even in a relationship with one another. Some the baby can make them fall in love with one another. Some it does the opposites  and they choose other options such as raising the child seperately and having joint custody. It is  becoming a bigger and bigger things to raise children seperately and parents going through divorces. It is one of the struggles most face in society today.

Major Point With Reality Television

Klostermans reading on reality televison made a major point that real people are becoming archetypes of what they see on T.V. This is saying that people that are not on the reality televivison shows are going throught the same things as the people who are on the reality television shows. This is a big reason why the reality shows are so popular. Teen mom is a popular reality show and has been on for years. It is relatable to other teenage mother or people that got pregnant at a young age and went through the same struggles. Watching a show that we can relate to or have some intrest in due to our own lives is different than watching a show we have no background information on or cant relate to at all. Bing able to relate to something is way more interesting. Reality television shows will continue to be a big hit if they can relate to what is going on with real people.

Country and Hip Hop/ Rap Music

A big topic and reading we discussed in class last week had to do with accidental racist. We discussed it in relation to the songs we listened to in class. The country songs we listened to we listened to if we could sing along with it my the end, talking about love, relevance, or whether it tells a story. To me it was easy to tell what the songs were talking about. The rap songs or hip hop music I would have to really pay attention or listen to a few times to really get to know what was truly being said. A lot of what was being talked about in hip hop music is guns, gangs, fighting, and pants hanging down. Many people frame rap or hip hop artist as these types of people as possible bad people when we are just framing them as what they talk about in their songs. Until we really personally know someone we have no right to judge them. To me I think it is alright to raise a point in a song because it makes people interested and gets them thinking.

Intertextuality

In the reading "Bootleg Culture" it talks about mash-ups and how they are made by combining two songs together to make one song. We listened to a few examples in class of mash-ups and it was neat to hear how nicely the songs went together it is almost like the beat from a song can go with lyrics to a handful of other songs and still sound decent. Mash-ups are starting to make a hit in todays culture. Mash-ups use intertextuality in their songs. We can find intertextuality in our music, in movies or even in books. An example of intertextuality with movies could be where they make a movies about a plane crashing and people having to survive on an island and then make another movie with the same kind of idea, but it may go differently. Its like one is feeding off the other. Intertextuality is found all over our culture.

First Half Of The Semester

Advertising is huge to today's culture. We see advertisements everyday on billboards, Internet, in the media, etc. it is not long before one thing can become a huge thing. What is popular today may not be tomorrow. Things change and new things come out. Our lives change we don't even notice it happening. Some of us learn and accustom our live by what we see around us and advertisement plays a huge roll in that change.
Marlboro Man is the guy that advertises for cigarettes. He is popular for his advertising. In his commercials he was always adventurous and full of energy and that made us who are viewing
think by smoking Marlboro cigarettes we will feel the same. It doesn't show the negative aspects or harms that it would cause. Advertisement can make us think something is good for us or will make us change in a way that will make us happy and that is not always true. Advertisements are meant to sell, but we can't always believe what we see.

Violence With Men

Violence is common in men. Men like to feel strong and powerful and acting out in violence gives them that perspective. They can act out in violence to protect their family or to show off to their friends. Violence is a way of showing their not scared and they will stand their ground. men don't like to show that they are scared, so if acting out in violence proves their not then that's what it takes.
violence an be both positive and negative depending on how and why their being violent. If they are in a bar and acting violent because they are not thinking straight then that can be a negative. Acting in violence to protect your family and stand your ground is a positive. Violence should be used in the right way.

High School Football

Frontline talks about the dangers and harmful effects high school football can have on the athletes. The documentary talks about the head injuries or trauma the players put on their bodies when they are being bounced around on the field. A question we should ask ourselves is, is it really worth a life threating injury to play a sport we love? A lot of the players especially that are graduating next year are looking for a scholarship for college. If they get injured or over work themselves to cause some health problems that will lower their chances of getting a scholarship.
Their practice is all year around and can take place in over 100 degree weather. Frontline showed a player being taken away by ambulance with a heat stroke and a temp of 108. That is insane. Coaches have to understand that their players are only human and by having practice in dangerous heat is putting harm on their bodies. Football is a game just like basketball and baseball and it should be played like a game. Players shouldn’t have to put themselves in situations where they are endangering their health to get a scholarship and play the game that they love.

This Is Emo

In the reading "This Is Emo"  by Chuck Klosterman he talks about how everyone has a perspective or list of things they want the person they love to have and in all reality he knows that not everything is going to be met on everyones list so we all will never be truly in love. If everything is not met on the list then they are not our perfect match. Everyone has exspectations and they want them met. If they are not met then at some point they are unhappy.
People see love stories all the time on television. One I can really remember growing up was Titanic. The love story between Jack and Rose made me dream that one day I would have that same love story or something simular to it. The story where one would sacrifice their life for the one they love. we see love stories everywhere and we all want a love story. Klosterman is saying that in reality we all have our mind set on having this love story and perfect match when we will all be disapointed in the end because the movies are not real.

Ads

Jean Kilbourne from the video "Killing Us Softly" talked about the perception people, especially young teenagers, are getting by the ads we see on T.V. The ad above is advertising cologne for men. It is telling us that if men wear that cologne then they can get women just like the one in the ad. Men first notice a women's look before actually knowing her and if wearing this cologne will get them a beautiful girl they are going to buy it. Many advertisements are meant to attract what men and women want because if it attracts and gives them what they want then their making a sale.

Sexiness in Society Today.

Being sexy is very important to society today. Everyone tries so hard to look skinny and present themselves as sexy. It makes people feel good that others notice them. What most people don't realize though is that we are all unique in our own way. We were all made to be different from one another. We don't have to be skinny or wear clothes that show half of our bodies to be notices. Sometimes just being us is enough. I always tell myself that if someone cant accept me at my worst then they don't deserve me at my best.
The thought and idea of being sexy is growing rapidly. In Chuck Klosterman's reading on pornography he mentions how the internet is contributing to the thought of women wanting to be sexy. Porn online back in the day wouldn't of been heard of, but now that the internet is vastly growing and people are putting whatever they like out their for the whole world to see pornography is becoming a big contributor to woman trying to be sexy. The attractiveness of the pornography that is seen online gives society a mindset that they will be noticed if they look and present themselves as sexy.

Happiness

When a new shirt or pair of shoes come out in the Nike stores we may see an abundance of people walking around with the new style on. When people view others apparel and see what's popular we start to change our style and apparel without even realizing it. We all have come accustomed to change in our lives that it sometimes doesn't even faze us.
Change can make a person happy, or it can cause a lot of stress. We might get happy for awhile when we buy those shoes we've been wanting for weeks or we might get stressed and frustrated because your new boss is not open to others opinions. We change our styles because its what makes us happy. When we see people wearing the new Air Forces it makes us feel good that we can wear them too and fit in. Change happens to everyone.
